When
Tryouts begin in early March with team practices beginning in late March. The 2026 Spring season culminates with a final tournament the weekend of May 15-17.
Note: Some teams may opt to participate in additional, optional Summer/Fall tournaments at an additional cost.
Where
Practices will be held at the Community First Champion Center in Appleton, WI. If participation numbers exceed expectations, some periodic out of town practices may occur within 25-40 minutes of the Champion Center.
Tournaments will take place in Chicago for all teams (at least one Chicago tournament per team). Some teams may have a home tournament in Appleton in addition to the April Chicago tournaments (details being finalized). Teams may also participate in additional tournaments at their discretion and cost with approval from program leadership.
Practice Schedule
We know Spring is busy. Practices are optional, but players are encouraged to attend as much as possible to get to know teammates and coaches.
The schedule below is when MOST practices will be taking place. There may be some deviations, particularly in May.
Squirts
Mondays (7:00 - 7:50) and Tuesdays (5:30 - 6:20)
Peewees
Tuesdays (7:30 - 8:50) and Thursdays (7:00 - 7:50)
Bantams
Mondays (8:00 - 9:20) and Thursdays (8:00 - 9:20) -- every 3rd week, each Bantam team will only have one practice on Wednesday (8:00 - 9:20)
16U
Sundays (times rotated)
18U
Sundays (times rotated)
Scrimmages
Scrimmages will be setup whenever possible. However, these are not guaranteed due to the limited number of Spring programs at each specific age level.
All attempts will be made to schedule scrimmages with a closely competitive team, but variability in Spring programming in the area can make this a challenge.
Uniforms
Uniforms will be included in the team fees for player selected to a team.
Practice Jersey: Each player will receive a practice jersey that they will keep at the end of the season.
Socks: Each player will receive a set of hockey socks that they will keep at the end of the season.
Game Jersey(s): Each player will receive a game jersey which will be turned in at the end of the season.
Extra Costs
In addition to season fees, some additional costs may be required. For example, when arranging scrimmages, if another team hosts, they may ask for cash contributions to cover the cost of ice time and/or referees. Even for scrimmages hosted by the Phoenix, teams will be responsible for covering the cost of referees. This is generally handled in this manner since referees are paid in cash.
ALSO, it is critical to note that all non-Wisconsin tournaments are Stay-to-Play Tournaments. What this means is that EVERY family will be required to stay at the hotel assigned by the tournament company at the rate assigned by the tournament company. Failure to do so will result in disqualification and/or fines being assessed to the offending teams. The hotel rates are generally marked up from "rack rates" since the tournament companies make their profits primarily off of sharing in hotel revenue. Without these Stay-to-Play arrangements, these tournaments would not exist as they simply would not be profitable for the companies running them.
